Grain grinders, also known as shredders, are one of the basic machines used in animal husbandry. They make it possible to increase production output with less effort. Thanks to the possibility of adjusting the degree of grinding, they can be used to produce feed for pigs, cattle or poultry.

Our feed shredders stand for high build quality, reliability and a long service life.

We have been designing and manufacturing agricultural machinery for over 30 years.

ZUPTOR's range of shredders includes:

We also supply a wide range of accessories.

We will discuss the different types of grinders and try to answer the question: what should a good grain grinder have?

What are the different types of feed shredders?

Considering the way the grain is milled, a distinction is made:

  • Disc shredder - is suitable for any type of grain. The ability to adjust the degree of grinding of the grain makes it suitable for any animal husbandry. It consists of two cooperating discs, made of cast iron or steel. The grain is split by abrasion and shearing on the discs' surfaces, which are profiled accordingly. The downside of this type of machine is the high cost of changing discs.
  • Flail shredder suction and compression unit - is designed for the shredding of cereal grains and maize. The grain is broken down by collision with the hammers in the shredding chamber. Thanks to the use of an additional fan responsible for the grain intake and middlings ejection, suction-flap shredders have the ability to take grain from a heap or silo on their own. Middlings production then becomes extremely efficient and unobtrusive. The design of these machines allows the sieve to be changed quickly to select the appropriate granulation for the animal group. Given the technical parameters and capabilities of these machines, their capacity ranges from 1,000 kg to 3,000 kg/h, with an intake distance of up to 20 metres.
  • Feed flail shredder - designed for the shredding of various types of cereal grains and maize. Compared to suction and pressing shredders, it is characterised by a higher capacity (using the same motor power, the output increases on average by 1t/h), which in 22 kW models makes it possible to obtain up to 4 000 kg of wheat per hour with a relative humidity of 14% and a milling diameter of 6 mm. This type of equipment is proving its worth in large feed mixing plants.

Why purchase a shotblaster

Grain shredders are ideal for animal farms where we ourselves want to control the quality of the feed we feed our animals. The choice of the size of the shredder (motor power) depends on the amount of feed we need. Depending on the size of the livestock farm, the machines can range from 1,000 kg/h to 4,000 kg/h. Which feed shredder will be the best for our farm, we always discuss in the first stage of the sale to make sure we select the right machine. It is important that the shotblaster is equipped with a range of possible facilities.

What to look for when choosing a shredder:

  • availability of spare parts,
  • how to replace spare parts,
  • ease of use of the device.
